Deebo Samuel continues to pile up weekly awards for his amazing start to the 2017 season.
For the second straight week, Samuel has been named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after his 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown Saturday night against Missouri. Samuel also won the award last week after a 97-yard touchdown return against NC State. Samuel is the first South Carolina player since 1957 to return a kickoff for a touchdown in consecutive games.
Samuel also was one of five players named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for the second straight week. The award is given weekly and annually to the most versatile player in the nation.
Samuel scored two touchdowns in South Carolina's 31-13 win over Missouri. He also scored on a 25-yard run and had 167 all-purpose yards. He had three touchdowns against NC State, adding two touchdown catches to his kickoff return. Samuel has 352 all-purpose yards in two games.
The Gamecocks, 2-0, host SEC foe Kentucky Saturday night at 7:30 at Williams-Brice Stadium.
