Spurs & Feathers garners multiple South Carolina press awards

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Spurs & Feathers was honored at the South Carolina Press Association’s annual meeting that was held Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Columbia Marriott.

Former Spurs & Feathers featured columnist Andy Demetra won best in the state of South Carolina among all divisions for his series of sports articles on former Gamecock baseball player Jake Williams. 

In addition, Spurs & Feathers photographers Jenny Dilworth and Allen Sharpe were honored. 

Dilworth took home best in the state for sports action photo for S&F’s division for her photo of Sindarius Thornwell’s monster dunk in the South Carolina men’s basketball win over Clemson in Greenville, S.C. in December of 2015. Sharpe finished second just behind Dilworth in the category for his photograph of a KC Crosby touchdown catch for Gamecock football. 

Former Spurs & Feathers executive editor Brian Hand finished among the top three in the state for his story on the groundbreaking for the Miracle League field in Columbia through the efforts of the Ray Tanner Foundation. 

The awards for the 2016 year picked up by Spurs & Feathers marked the second straight year that the publication was honored by the South Carolina Press Association with Hand and reporter Kyle Heck honored for the 2015 year for column writing and their efforts with SpursandFeathers.com.
