Fresh off a fantastic basketball season, South Carolina head men's coach Frank Martin and head women's coach Dawn Staley both received contract extensions on Friday.
Martin had one year added to his deal, which extends his contract through the 2022-23 season. According to multiple media reports, Martin would make $3.3 million by the final year of the deal.
“Since Frank has been at South Carolina, he has continued building a program that has seen increased success each season,” Athletics Director Ray Tanner said in a statement. “I believe his team’s Final Four run is representative of the foundation that he has used to build our program. Frank’s caring for his student-athletes is something that I think will help sustain his successes here for a long time.”
Staley received a four-year extension to her contract, which now runs through the 2024-25 season. Her base salary increased to $650,000 per year, but Staley could make as much as $2.1 million by the final year of her new contract.
“This contract renewal is demonstrative of Dawn’s role in building our women’s basketball program as one of the best in the nation, one that is built for sustained success,” Tanner said in a statement. “Dawn’s leadership role in athletics, as a national championship coach and the USA Basketball coach, continues to bring a welcomed spotlight to our University. I look forward to having Dawn serve as our women’s basketball head coach for years to come.”
Tanner himself also received an extension to his contract on Friday. It's a three-year extension that takes him through the end of the 2021-22 academic year. According to multiple reports, Tanner's annual compensation will increase from $737,187 to $900,000 with that amount increasing to $1 million in July of 2019.
